Traditional restaurants in winter; butchers sell it to cook at home.

Small river fish floured and fried whole, eaten by the handful with lemon and a glass of local white. A Moselle valley tradition rather than a national one.
Riverside restaurants at Remich, Ehnen and Wasserbillig.

A pâté of pork and veal baked in a pastry crust with Riesling and jelly, sliced cold.
Butchers and traditional restaurants, particularly along the Moselle.

Bakeries from late August into autumn.

Cellars at Remich, Grevenmacher and Wormeldange; most offer tastings.
Old quarters and fortificationsLuxembourg City
The UNESCO-listed upper town sits on cliffs above the Alzette gorge. The Chemin de la Corniche runs along the old ramparts and gives the view the whole city is built around.

Bock CasematesLuxembourg City
Kilometres of gun galleries cut into the rock beneath the promontory where the city began, part of a fortress the powers of Europe agreed to demolish in 1867. Cold and low-ceilinged.
2 hours
Grund and PfaffenthalLuxembourg City
The lower town along the river, reached by a glass panoramic lift down the cliff at Pfaffenthal and a funicular up to Kirchberg — both free, both part of the transport network, and both worth riding for the view alone.

Vianden CastleVianden
A large restored castle on a ridge above a river town in the north, with a chairlift up the opposite slope for the view back at it. Victor Hugo's house in the village below is a small museum.

free
Lift and funicular

free
Car hire
Useful for the Mullerthal and the Ardennes valleys, where bus frequencies drop. Parking in Luxembourg City is expensive and limited; park-and-ride sites on the edge with free transport into the centre are the sensible approach.
moderate; fuel is cheaper here than in the neighbouring countries
Huduma za teksi kwa programu
Uber, Webtaxi
Uber has operated here since 2024, but rides are fulfilled by the licensed taxi firm Webtaxi rather than by private drivers, so it behaves more like a taxi booking app than ride-hailing elsewhere. Taxis are expensive by regional standards, which matters less than usual given that public transport costs nothing.
