Buses, trams and second-class train travel within the country are free of charge to everyone, residents and visitors alike, with no ticket and no registration. First class on trains and cross-border journeys still require a ticket.

CFL runs the network from Luxembourg City station, north to Ettelbruck, Wiltz and Clervaux, east to Wasserbillig and the Moselle, and across the borders to Trier, Metz, Nancy and Brussels. Domestic legs are free; the international ones are not.

A single line runs from Luxexpo through Kirchberg and past the station toward Cloche d'Or, connecting the airport bus, the European institutions and the centre. Free, frequent and the easiest way across the city.

The Pfaffenthal panoramic lift drops from the upper town to the valley floor, and a funicular climbs from Pfaffenthal to Kirchberg. Both are part of the free network rather than tourist attractions with tickets.

Useful for the Mullerthal and the Ardennes valleys, where bus frequencies drop. Parking in Luxembourg City is expensive and limited; park-and-ride sites on the edge with free transport into the centre are the sensible approach.

Uber has operated here since 2024, but rides are fulfilled by the licensed taxi firm Webtaxi rather than by private drivers, so it behaves more like a taxi booking app than ride-hailing elsewhere. Taxis are expensive by regional standards, which matters less than usual given that public transport costs nothing.
